OPENING MY CALL

I was playing a Brighton High School Baseball game the day I received my call.  I got my call the same day my good friend, Zach Ney, got his call.  My family, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends came over.  I was so nervous!! I opened up the call:
Dear Elder Eichers:  You are hereby called to serve as a missionary of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  You are assigned to labor in the Illinois Chicago Mission.  It is anticipated that you will serve for a period of 24 months.  You should report to the Provo Missionary Training Center on Wednesday, August 7, 2013.  You will prepare to preach the gospel in the Spanish language..."
It was an overwhelming experience.  I am so grateful that I will serve the people of Chicago and as a missionary for the LDS church!   My cousin, Eric Murray, received this same call thirteen years ago.  He loved his mission.  It was a short couple of weeks later when my Young Men's leader congratulated me on being able to go the newly opening Mexico City MTC.  I told him he was mistaken, it was the Provo MTC.  We figured out that they had changed my reporting MTC.  I was so excited for this cool experience!   I had one friend, Porter Criddle, who was going there on the same exact day.
